Protection of the Atmosphere indicator

Since 1992 the Protection of the Atmosphere indicator is on the list of Sustainability Indicators (SIs) developed by the United Nations during the 1992 Rio Earth Summit (Source: Simon Bell & Stephen Morse, 2008).

Transport accounts for 6.3 billion tons of CO2 per year globally, from which 4,6 billion tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are caused by road traffic, this makes up 17% of the total emissions of CO2 (Source: Auto in cijfers, 2012). (more…)

Questions about Multimodal transport

Business CrossRoads Consultancy received a number of questions after its presentation Multimodal transport at the Business in motion forum in Chelaybsink, Russia: How do you assess the current state of the transport and logistics system inRussia? How is it integrated into the global logistics system? For the time being Russia has faced a problem of container yards shortage. Was there a similar problem in the West, and if it was, what kind of   solutions to this problem have been applied?

The director of Business CrossRoads Consultancy Jan Jansen gave the following answers:

  1. Russia is the largest country in the world, so it is quite difficult to give an answer on this question. Between the large cities (>500 000 inhabitants) there are good roads and railroads. In more remote areas it is of course more difficult situation, especially because of the long Russian winter.
