The research and review articles were selected using the semi-systematic literature review method and then analysed considering their relevance to the topic of this study. The authors created an overview of SIs and corresponding sustainable solutions categorised by sustainability domains, discussed the sustainability improvement cycle (SIC) and challenges in implementing SIs, and outlined future research directions focusing on the practical application of SIs in road freight transportation.
